| Waupun hopes to buy state-owned property |

WISCONSIN - After years of talking, the City of Waupun is hoping to write a check to purchase state-owned land early next year. Mayor Jodi Steger told the Waupun Common Council on Tuesday night that talks with state and local officials concerning the city's acquisition of a 140-acre parcel of land just east of Highway 151 is definitely moving forward. "They need to do one more appraisal of the land, and it looks like we'll be meeting again to finalize the purchase," Steger said. The purchase price of the land parcel, which is part of the State Farm owned by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, is estimated at $1 million, said City Administrator Gary Rogers Jr. The city would, in turn, sell the land to a developer and create a tax incremental finance (TIF) district to help recoup improvement costs.
