| Sumner jail approaches medical costs cap |

TENNESSEE - Sumner County's jail population is inching toward capacity and hovering above the 575-member cap outlined in the county's contract for inmate medical care. Sheriff Bob Barker warned county commissioners that he may have to ask for more money next month to cover medical and other expenses associated with housing more inmates. "We're not going to break the bank, but there may be overages that start occurring," Barker said. The department has already shelled out $1,200 for 40 extra cases of toilet paper for inmates, according to jail administrator Sonya Troutt. Read more.
