Court weighs public's right to offender trials

NEW HAMPSHIRE - The Supreme Court heard oral arguments Thursday on a landmark case testing whether the public gets to watch new civil commitment trials to keep sex offenders in prison another five years after they finish their criminal terms.

The Sexual Predator Act that took effect in January calls for a probable cause hearing and a later jury trial to prove or disprove whether a sexual offender remains too dangerous to release and needs intensive therapy in a secure setting. Read more.
