Iowa prisons are going high-tech to watch inmate gangs. Officials say the National Institute of Justice has chosen Iowa to participate in an anti-gang pilot project. The state will use advanced computer technology from the federal government to better track inmates involved in prison gangs. The system has information about an inmate's criminal history, family, visiting list, treatment programs and parole board activity. Iowa's deputy corrections director says Iowa's prison have about 8,600 inmates, and close to five hundred are members of a gang. |
