COs punished for lesbian wedding

FLORIDA - The Florida Department of Corrections has disciplined eight correctional officers for their part in a what was described as a lesbian wedding ceremony for two inmates at Lowell Correctional Institution in Marion County.

One of the two inmates involved in the ceremony, held on St. Patrick's Day, has been moved to another state prison. Officials said the discipline was meted out because the officers "allowed inmates to perform, decorate and participate in a wedding ceremony." Investigators determined the event was an unauthorized activity in a close-management dormitory, the most restricted living area for inmates. Read more.
