Former official repays benefits given "in error"

OTTAWA, CANADA - Ron Stewart, the former CFL legend accused of overbilling Canadians while doing little work as Canada's ombudsman for prisons, has reimbursed the federal government $112,000 while apologizing for receiving benefits "in error."

In a letter to Corrections Services of Canada, Stewart said he had always tried to carry out his duties as ombudsman "with integrity and honesty" and at no time had he ever intended to do anything wrong or personally benefit from his actions. Read more.
