| Overcrowded jail holds academy |

FLORIDA - It's an ongoing effort to ease overcrowding in a Space Coast jail. The Brevard County Jail is holding its first ever Corrections Academy. Fifty-four recruits were selected out of some 1,000 applicants for the 14-week training period. They're learning legal procedures, defensive tactics and going through physical training. It's hoped the new corrections officers will bolster the staff of the 1,900 inmate facility where the numbers are 500 over capacity and a 250 bed jail expansion is nearly complete. Read more.
