| Honors dorm adds beds |

Georgia Corrections and Calhoun County officials celebrated Thursday the addition of a 192-bed dormitory at Calhoun State Prison but acknowledged that, besides prisoners, the 1994 facility has drawn little else to Calhoun County. Building L is an “honors dorm” for prisoners who have shown good behavior or are mature in age, Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner James Donald said at a large gathering of corrections officials at the prison. Calhoun State, which held approximately 1,230 inmates before the expansion, is a high-security prison for men convicted of serious crimes such as murder, rape and child molestation, with 232 inmates serving life sentences.
