The doors of St. Joseph School were locked earlier this week as a safety measure.
The school locked the doors after it was informed that a convicted sex offender had been released from jail temporarily.
David E. Tracy, of Claremont, Ill., was released by the court for medical reasons.
Tracy was taken into custody on February 23 on charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Under the terms of a negotiated plea agreement, Tracy was to spend five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Sheriff Bob Foerster said Tracy had been released for medical treatment at Richland Memorial Hospital.
Though he was supposed to be out until March 11, Tracy was taken back into custody yesterday because of an alleged bond violation.
According to Foerster, Tracy was dropped off and picked up at the hospital. There was no danger to citizens.
"I would not be a part of anything I thought would endanger people," Foerster said.
According to St. Joe Principal Linda Mastio, the school locked the doors in response to concerns of parents and for the safety of the children.
Tracy had not been seen in the school.
While on lockdown, visitors had to enter the school through the south entrance, near the office.
The lockdown was lifted March 4 after the school was informed that Tracy was back in custody.
Mastio said the school prefers that visitors enter through the south door.
Tracy was transported to the Illinois Department of Corrections this morning to begin serving his sentence.
