| Utah puts spotlight on county lockups |

UTAH - The Utah Department of Corrections has asked all county jails that hold state inmates to correct their "vulnerabilities," and plans regular inspections of the jails, the department's director said Monday. Corrections Director Tom Patterson said some of the jails were asked to address concerns about fencing, razor wire, monitoring and procedures. Some of the fixes were "mere recommendations," Patterson said during a meeting with The Salt Lake Tribune's editorial board. But if more serious concerns are not addressed by deadlines set by the department, the state will remove its inmates from those jails, he said. Read more.
