Community corrections may continue industrial action

AUSTRALIA - Community correction and juvenile justice officers in regional Western Australia will decide today whether to resume industrial action after a back to work order by the Industrial Relations Commission. Almost 80 officers in regional areas joined 120 community corrections workers in Perth last week in walking off the job.

The Community and Public Sector Union says workers are concerned about what they say are excessive workloads and unreasonable working hours. Bunbury union delegate Laurie Sutherland says negotiations have led to an interim resolution for metropolitan workers, but regional staff have been given no options.

"They haven't made any interim orders or set any case load caps in relation to regional practice at the moment and because of that we've asked for an urgent hearing in the Industrial Relations Commission," he said.
