OREGON - Five years after a class-action lawsuit demanded better care for Oregon inmates with hepatitis C, the state prison system leads the nation in aggressively tackling the potentially fatal liver infection. Such is the view of Michelle Burrows, a Portland attorney who represented inmates in the reform-minded litigation. A 2004 settlement delivered faster medical evaluations and, in some cases, life-saving medication, Burrows said in a recent interview. Read more.
