Vt. steps back from religious restrictions

VERMONT - Vermont inmates will be able to attend any religious service they choose and wear religious head coverings throughout the prisons under guidelines being finalized by the state Department of Corrections. The new rules are a change in direction from a more restrictive proposal that had been criticized as potentially unconstitutional.

Corrections Commissioner Rob Hofmann said his department received an unprecedented amount of feedback on the rules and took most of the recommendations made. Read more.
