| Community corrections looks to contracts, jail crowding |

MICHIGAN - The Branch County Community Corrections Advisory Board (BCCCAB) met in a busy session last week to and look at ways to relieve the jail overcrowding problem that has in recent weeks led to the early releases of non-threatening prisoners serving time for misdemeanors. Contracts approved at their previous meeting have yet to go before the full board of commissioners. While there is not yet a finalized contract from the state, the grant is expected to remain the same for 2008, and the committee approved a contract with the Substance Abuse and Referral Service (STARS) of the Community Health Center for Substance Abuse Services, contingent upon contract and funding approval from the state.
