| Pierre focuses on education, drug treatment |

SOUTH DAKOTA - The state women's prison in Pierre spends a lot of time helping inmates get an education, kick drug addictions and learn essential skills, Warden Dwane Russell says. About 95 percent of the female inmates will eventually leave the prison after completing their sentences or earning parole, so they need to be able to hold jobs and care for their children, Russell said. "Education is a big factor here," Russell told reporters recently during a tour of the women's prison, which was opened about a decade ago. Read more.
