INDIANA - After a summer filled to more than capacity and a lawsuit from the American Civil Liberties Union charging overcrowding, the Grant County Jail has been under capacity in recent days. Monday night, 252 inmates were being housed in the facility, which is 22 inmates under capacity. As recently as Aug. 5, 311 inmates were being held at the jail. Sheriff Darrell Himelick attributed the drop to the weather and the criminal justice system working inmates through the system more quickly. Read more.
