| New regional jail discussed |

MISSISSIPPI - By all accounts, the Harrison County supervisors' meeting Monday with the state prison commissioner was an encouraging start to the possibility of building a regional jail in Gulfport. Supervisors, grappling with long-term problems at the overcrowded jail, had a number of questions for Commissioner Christopher Epps of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. But Epps had some key questions for them: Where would you build it? And can you hire enough people to staff it? County supervisor Connie Rockco said officials plan a workshop to iron out details. If they decide to go regional, they must present a resolution to lawmakers and receive approval from Epps and Gov. Haley Barbour. Read more.
