| Worker plan gets mixed reaction |

FLORIDA - Town Manager Charles Saddler is ready to begin several street-repair projects using inmates from minimum-security prisons for the labor, but some Town Council members are leery of the idea. Saddler presented the council with a proposed contract from the Florida Department of Corrections that would provide the town a five-man work crew and a correctional work squad officer to supervise the prisoners. They would be on the job five days a week for 52 weeks at an annual cost of $61,108. While Saddler sees this as a cost-effective way to complete projects like drainage cleanup, park maintenance and facility repair, Council members Rick Johnson and Randy Dowd questioned the safety factors involved in bringing inmates to work in the town limits.
