Op-Ed: More cells, more help

CONNECTICUT - In an ironic twist, a prominent Democratic lawmaker who has opposed new prisons in the past is now saying the state may need two of them — and lock-up-the-bad-guys Republicans are resisting.

More cells will be necessary if the Department of Correction continues to cram nearly 20,000 inmates into prisons built to house 17,000. The crowding could worsen with "three strikes and you're in for life" laws that may be coming next year. Read more.
