| Officers get training in tent |

FLORIDA - About 80 new correction officers have been hired by the sheriff's office to staff the expansion of the county jail on Camp Road. Typically, the training for new officers takes place at the Brevard Community College campus in Titusville. But to train one of the biggest classes for the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, authorities decided on a novel idea: to conduct the 14-week training inside one of the cavernous jail tents that have been built to house low-risk prisoners. For about two months, instructors have used a 10,000 square-foot tent called the S-4 near Camp Road in Sharpes to teach the new recruits, who range in age from 19 to 51. Read more.
