| Grant awarded to keep mentally ill out of jail |

NEW JERSEY - The state Division of Mental Health will award a $135,000 grant to help keep the mentally ill out of the Cumberland County Jail. The grant, which will be administered by the Cumberland County Guidance Center, will provide counseling services for those inmates with mental health issues, said Freeholder Jane Christy. A study found that "more than 20 percent of the jail's inmates were taking some kind of medication for mental instability," Christy said. Read more.
