| Land trust pursues prison ranch acreage |

ALABAMA - The state’s Forever Wild land trust board on Thursday decided to pursue the purchase of about 2,000 acres of the prison system cattle ranch in Hale County. The property could be used for hunting dog field trials, which could boost tourism and the local economy. Department of Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley said the acreage at the Farquhar State Cattle Ranch near Greensboro would be an ideal place to hold field trials. “These field trials would be not only for bird dogs but retrievers and beagles,” Lawley said.
