The Bureau of Justice Statistics' Prisoners in 2006 Report details the number of persons in state and federal prisons at the end of 2006. It compares the increase in the population during 2006 with the previous year and provides prison growth rates since 2000. The report also provides the number of male and female prisoners on December 31, 2006, and the rates of incarceration by jurisdiction as well as other statistics about prisoners held in U.S. Territories and Commonwealths, in military facilities, and in facilities operated by or for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
