Escape plan theory probed

NEW ZEALAND - The Corrections Department is investigating the possibility convicted RSA triple-murderer William Bell got himself deliberately injured to escape from prison. Bell, 29, is under heavy police guard in Auckland Hospital with head injuries after being attacked by another inmate at Auckland Prison's high-security Paremoremo wing yesterday.

Corrections Department assistant general manager of operations Brian McMurray said the prison had been aware for some months Bell may be planning to escape. The department were treating it as "every possibility" Bell had got himself assaulted as part of his escape plan, he told Radio New Zealand. Read more.
