| More funds sought for holding federal inmates |

TEXAS - Nueces County hopes to earn $15 per day more per federal prisoner housed at the jail upon their anticipated return. Until then, county and jail officials are looking for options to house those prisoners because the Nueces County Jail is at capacity. The return of federal prisoners has been a top priority after their removal by U.S. Marshals in June 2006 because of substandard jail conditions. The county has spent millions revamping the jail and has been in ongoing negotiations with the U.S. Marshals service since January in hopes of the inmates' return to the jail, County Judge Loyd Neal said.
