Urban crime rate unchanged in 2006

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The crime rate in U.S. cities and suburbs remained essentially unchanged in 2006, the Justice Department said in a report on Wednesday that conflicts with other crime surveys.

But the department said it was unable to determine whether crime rose or fell in the rural areas that hold roughly one-third of the nation's population because of a change in the way the survey was done. Read more.
