| Sixty-four elderly prisoners pardoned |

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - President Arroyo pardoned yesterday 64 elderly prisoners, including 40 convicts at the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP), as her Christmas gift to them, Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said. Bunye led officials in informing the surprised 40 prisoners aged 70 and above at NBP that they were pardoned by Mrs. Arroyo in time for Christmas. Other officials present at the NBP were Bureau of Corrections Director Ricardo Dapat, Justice Undersecretary Fidel Exconde, Undersecretary Martin Crisostomo and State Prosecutor Jose de Castro.
