The Ministry of Justice started a nationwide program to educate inmates on law last Thursday, the first ever of this kind.
A textbook was published specially for inmates to learn about the law and the law courses will be taught in prisons nationwide, the Ministry source said.
China now has around 1.5 million inmates and 80 percent of them have received no more than nine years of education.
Most of these inmates are short of legal knowledge and the courses will help rectify this, the Ministry source said.
Chinese prisons have previously used courses to teach inmates legal knowledge but it was the first a textbook had been published.Enditem
