WASHINGTON - Washington inmates who take part in work-release programs are less likely to be convicted of another crime within three years than counterparts who don't, a new study concludes. The nonpartisan Washington State Institute for Public Policy looked at inmates released from prison from 1998 through mid-2003, following their criminal history until 2006. About 58 percent of inmates who went through work release were convicted of a new crime, compared with 61 percent for those who did not, the institute found. Read more.
