CALIFORNIA - The state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says up to 33,000 inmates might be eligible for early release, but the immediate impact would be minimal on the state and the California Institution for Men. Prison spokesman Lt. Mark Hargrove said only 200 of the nearly 6,200 inmates at CIM are even eligible for a case review, much less early release. Department spokesman Seth Unger said if all state inmates identified for sentence recalculations were evaluated, about 600 would be released within the next year throughout the prison system.
