Suicide trial moved

NEW HAMPSHIRE - A lawsuit against the Strafford County Department of Corrections originally filed in a neighboring county will go to trial at Strafford County Superior Court. A Newington man claiming the jail was negligent in his son's suicide at the facility sued the Department of Corrections on Oct. 13. Daniel Hehir filed the lawsuit at Rockingham County Superior Court in Brentwood.

Hehir's son Michael, 21, was found dead while in protective custody at Strafford County jail in October 2006. The county recently filed and was granted a motion for change of venue, moving the case from Rockingham County to Strafford County. In the motion, the county claims the move is necessary because multiple corrections officers would have to testify in a trial and would be absent from their duties if the trial was in Brentwood.
