| No flat-screens for local prisoners |

NEW ZEALAND - Acting prison manager Gordon Ngatai was yesterday responding to news that the Corrections Department spent more than $45,000 on LCD flat-screen televisions and PlayStations for prisoners. But none of them came New Plymouth's way, Mr Ngatai said. Rather, the new LCDs went to the new prisons being built around the country. "We only ever had one LCD that a prisoner brought in, but it was a 15-inch so I told him to get rid of it." Prisoners are only allowed up to 14-inch televisions in their cells which they must supply themselves, he said. Read more.
