| UK prison suicide rates climb |

UNITED KINGDOM - VALE MP Peter Luff believes prisons are becoming overcrowded places of despair' after suicide rates rose by 37 per cent this year. He spoke out this week after figures released by the Ministry of Justice have shown that the number of suicides in jails in England and Wales, has risen from 67 in 2006 to 92 in 2007. Mr Luff has said that the increase of 25 suicides is down to overcrowding and mismanagement.' MP for Mid Worcestershire, Mr Luff, said: "The increase in suicide rates is the latest and saddest measure of the scale of the government's prison policy failure. Read more.
