| Study shows benefit of mental illness training |

MAINE - Over the past two years, eight county jails in Maine have instituted a new training program for corrections officers called "Crisis Intervention Team," or CIT. CIT programs have worked well for police on the street, and now a new study out from the University Of New England shows they work well in jails, too. CIT officers learn how to recognize symptoms of mental illness, how to calm mentally ill inmates down, and how to get them appropriate treatment. Read more.
