Md. hospital won't admit inmates

MARYLAND - Shaken by two violent escapes by prison inmates, a health care group that oversees Laurel Regional Hospital has told the state that it will no longer admit inmates as patients in non-emergency situations until new policies are put into place.

The announcement comes a day after state police said Kelvin D. Poke, an inmate at the Jessup Correctional Institution who had been taken to the Laurel facility after complaining of chest pains, was being guarded by just one corrections officer and without handcuffs, two apparent violations of Department of Corrections policies.
