| W. Va. facilities go smoke free |

WEST VIRGINIA - THE chief currency in West Virginia prisons is about to change. Officials of the state Department of Corrections are making all cells non-smoking. On March 1, the 5,000 or so people now housed in the state's prisons will have to quit smoking. Officials believe they will save $40,000 in health costs because of the ban. For two years, officials have been discussing a cigarette ban with inmates. "It's been a slow process," Corrections Commissioner Jim Rubenstein told lawmakers this week. Read more.
