PENNSYLVANIA - The three entities that comprise Lackawanna County’s penal system have been incorporated into a Department of Corrections that will be headed by one director. The move is part of a major reorganization Commissioners Mike Washo and Corey O’Brien hope will streamline county government, they said at a Prison Board meeting Monday afternoon. “The point is to have fewer people reporting to us,” Mr. Washo said, adding that the amount spent on county salaries in the 2008 budget will be less than the amount spent in 2007. “In the end, this is going to save the taxpayers money.” Read more.
