| Counties roll out their jail proposal |

MAINE - County commissioners and sheriffs say they don't want to merge with the state prison system or see any of their jails closed overnight. In-stead, they proposed on Wednesday to create their own statewide authority to find efficiencies and manage the jail population to make better use of beds statewide. County administrators told the Criminal Justice Committee on Wednesday they want to maintain some control over their own facilities and not become part of the state Department of Corrections, as proposed by Gov.
