NEW HAMPSHIRE - The state prison correction officers voted Friday to leave the New Hampshire local of the Service Employees International Union and join a different union. Among unionized [COs], the vote to decertify with the NH State Employees Association and join the New England Policemen's Benevolent Association was 191-150. The supervisors agreed with that course of action by a 51-32 margin. The election covers more than 650 staff members and ends a long-term relationship with the SEA. The defeat is particularly embarrassing for its president, Gary Smith, who spent his career as a [CO] before taking the leadership post. It also follows much smaller votes taken by Fish and Game and Highway Patrol law enforcement officers who both chose to break from the SEA. Read more.
