Md. plans to hire more parole officers

MARYLAND - Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) said today in his State of the State address that frustration over recently passed tax increases was "totally understandable" but argued that he and lawmakers had done the right thing by "protecting our priorities" and pledged a heightened focus on fighting violent crime during his second year in office.

In an often somber 30-minute address, O'Malley also asked for the General Assembly's help in holding down college tuition costs, developing a long-term plan for energy conservation and further restricting development in environmentally sensitive areas. Read more.
