| Workers to testify against John Doe law |

WISCONSIN - State corrections workers are expected to travel to Madison this week to testify in support of a bill that would bar inmates from manipulating the John Doe law. "This is our chance to testify against the travesty of John Doe laws and the effects the abuse of those laws have had on corrections staff," said Daniel Meehan, sergeant and union president of Waupun Correctional Institution. The Assembly Committee on Judiciary and Ethics will hear testimony from the public and lawmakers during a hearing scheduled at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at the State Capitol. Corrections workers like Meehan have been rallying across the state, urging state lawmakers to reform the 169-year-old law that allows inmates to bypass traditional routes to bring unwarranted charges against state workers.
