Fifteen former female inmates recently filed joint civil lawsuit against the Atoka County, Okla., sheriff and two dispatchers, claiming they were sexually harassed while incarcerated at the county jail.
The allegations, recounted in graphic detail in the lawsuit, date to October 2000.
Each plaintiff is seeking more than $1 million in damages for violation of constitutional and statutory rights, according to documents filed March 5 at the U.S. District Court in Muskogee.
Some plaintiffs claim Sheriff Gary McCool did not reply to complaints about the dispatchers' sexual advances.
