Former Albion secretary retires

PENNSYLVANIA - The ousted head of a state prison from which a murderer escaped has retired. The Department of Corrections says Marilyn Brooks retirement date was effective Saturday.

Brooks was removed as superintendent of the State Correctional Institution at Albion after murderer Malcolm Kysor hid in a garbage can and escaped Nov. 25. He remains at large. Brooks went on sick leave in December and missed several meetings with Corrections Secretary Jeffrey Beard to explain her side of the escape. Beard says Brooks' staff was negligent in the escape. Two prison employees have been fired and two more suspended for 30 days over the escape. Read more.
