| Security level issue behind new facility |

CANADA - Earlier this month Solicitor General John Les cancelled a capital announcement concerning correctional facilities. At first glance it appeared that the reason for the cancellation of the announcement was due to a failure to consult with the Okanagan Indian Band, given the close proximity of the proposed prison to a First Nations land reserve. Retired corrections worker John Templeton says there is more to the issue. “The site for this prison isn’t on a land reserve so that isn’t the issue,” says Templeton. The issue is that this is going to be a maximum security prison, not a minimum security facility as was proposed 12 years ago.” Read more.
