| Chief, officials discuss jail possibilities |

MISSISSIPPI - State Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps has met with DeSoto County officials to discuss the possibility of a regional jail that could house both county and state inmates. DeSoto County Sheriff Bill Rasco and county Supervisor Bill Russell represented the county at Tuesday's meeting. A prison consultant also took part in the two-hour discussion of jail crowding and future correctional needs. Much work remains to be done, Russell said, but county officials were encouraged that a regional facility could be a viable alternative to expanding the existing DeSoto County Jail. Read more.
