Gov. wants to cut $50 mill. in prison costs

MICHIGAN - Universities, community colleges and K-12 schools would get increases under Gov. Jennifer Granholm's latest budget proposal, but the Democratic governor wants to cut prison costs by $50 million.

State budget director Robert Emerson delivered the spending plan for the budget year that starts Oct. 1 to a joint session of the House and Senate Appropriations committees Thursday morning. Read more.
