| Straw under pressure over jail buggings |

UNITED KINGDOM - Jack Straw, the Justice Secretary, is under pressure to explain whether ministers knew of an alleged nationwide police operation to bug lawyers during confidential prison visits. Opposition politicians and human rights lawyers are demanding Mr Straw make a formal statement following disclosures made by a whistleblower in The Daily Telegraph. The whistleblower claimed on Friday that hundreds of conversations between inmates and their lawyers, as well as other visitors to Woodhill Prison, Milton Keynes, have been covertly recorded.
