CALIFORNIA - Contra Costa supervisors are considering five sites for a small state prison, and one spot a mile south of Antioch's Deer Valley High School is stirring controversy. "That proposal would be dead on arrival with the Antioch City Council," Mayor Don Freitas said before Tuesday's supervisors meeting. "I simply don't want to have my community recognized as a place where we have a prison. We want to build high-end residences and recreation fields in that area, and putting a prison there would obliterate any possibility of that." Read more.
