| Union defends youth facility staff |

NEWFOUNDLAND, CANADA - A union is defending staff at a youth corrections facility in eastern Newfoundland, amid allegations of abuse. Justice Minister Jerome Kennedy has confirmed the RCMP are now investigating a father's complaint that staff at the Whitbourne Youth Centre abused his son. But Carol Furlong, president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees, said the media are unfairly targeting the employees. Furlong said NAPE-represented staff were following procedures while the boy was detained there and are co-operating fully in the investigation. Read more.
