| More officers fired over inmate beatings |

Two more jail officers have been fired from the Metropolitan Detention Center for allegedly beating three Valencia County (N.M.) inmates. The Albuquerque Journal reports that the firings in the last few days came on the heels of action taken against three other officers. The five officers lost their jobs over the incident that allegedly occurred last month. Authorities suspect the beatings occurred as the inmates were being booked. Investigators are being aided by surveillance video recorded inside the jail. Once the sheriff's investigation is finished, criminal charges could be forwarded to the district attorney's office. All three inmates have been returned to the Valencia County Jail. |
